Shawn Nyswonger writes: I'm with the North Fork Cattle Co. that OWNS the property that everyone is taking pictures of on Cottonwood Canyon Rd. The road there is a county maintained easement through our property for neighbors living behind us and people traveling to the forest (which is still closed after last year's fire). I'm writing to ask you to please advise everyone that this IS private property and that they are NOT to leave the pavement. It is open range which means that cattle are present and can be anywhere grazing. At this time of year cows are with calves which can be a danger in an of itself. This area abounds with rattle snakes that have begun to come out with the nice weather. And there are lots of rocks of course for people to twist ankles, etc. The point is, liability is an issue, and it has become a three ring circus out here this year with people blatantly ignoring the No Trespassing signs and walking past them, climbing fences, driving across fields and up our dirt roads, camping, picnicking, hiking, littering, etc. This is NOT public land for these activities and will NOT be allowed nor tolerated. To the north of Hwy 166 just a short distance away and also at the Carrizo Monument, all of this is allowed. Please go there. Photographers have become a nuisance and a liability here this year, literally coming in by the truck loads and violating our private property rights. I don't want to start threatening people with lawsuits and court action. I've been civil and decent thus far this year, but I am at my limit. Please advise all that they are walking a thin line coming out here. Thank you

And to top that off, Carol is no longer adding updates to her page...

Right now I cannot in good conscience continue to distribute "where-to-go" wildflower information. Private property is being destroyed. Flowers are being trampled. Rude and inconsiderate behavior abounds.

I may change my mind in a couple of weeks, but for the time being, I no longer wish to participate (however good my intentions) in what I'm observing in wildflower locations throughout California.

I have been providing wildflower "where-to" information since 1996, making it easier for folks to see glorious vistas they otherwise wouldn't know about. I am sad to see this come to an end.

It's been a good run. Thank you for having been a part of it. And thank you to all the incredibly generous people who have supplied me with wildflower information for more than a decade.

Please walk gently on this earth. Please respect private property. Please stay on the designated trails. Please do not trample, walk on, roll around in, picnic on, or wallow about in the wildflower fields. Your inadvertently inconsiderate actions today affect years of future wildflower blooms.

P.S. To those of you here because you read about my Wildflower Hotsheet in the Sacramento Bee, my apologies. It's not their fault. Everything was up and fine when they interviewed me a couple of weeks ago.
