LPA Field Trip to Randsburg, Feb 15 2015

Archives

[image1_left]The LPA invites you to participate in a field trip to Randsburg on February 15, 2015.  Randsburg is a "living ghost town" only an hour away from Lancaster.  Gold was discovered in 1895 with the first post office opening in 1896.  After the gold and other metals played out the town population shrank to about 69 residents by 2010.  Many of the old buildings are still standing and, while many have been converted to serve tourists, main street looks much as it did 100 years ago.  There is a general store/ice cream parlor, antique stores, art galleries, a mining museum, church, and an old jail. Off main street are many period houses as well as iconic outhouses.  Today's Randsburg is a haven for eclectic personalities as well as dirt bikers and tourists.  For more information check the internet at http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/ca/randsburg.html.
