Preparing Prints for the AV Fair

Once again, the LPA offered a free workshop “Preparing Prints for the AV Fair”, open to the public, and held at the AV Fair.  The workshop was conducted by LPA President Dave Anderson, who is also the Photography Chairman for the AV Fair.

The High Dynamic Range workshop was conducted on May 25th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Senior Center. The group was over 40 members and guests who were asked to bring their camera and we as a group went outside to take some photographs to be processed in the workshop. After a few images, we came back in and downloaded the images then began using Photomatrix to process our images. Ted went over each control of the software and gave some guidelines on the constraints on the values of the controls. Too much on one control can make an image look surreal or too little can leave a image flat and lifeless.

April 27, 2010 - This month's workshop was the first of many events that our new coordinator, Douglas Wade, presented to a group of approximately 37 people.

The topic offered benefits for the novice, as well as, to the master photographer.

February 23, 2010 - Video presentation and Q&A Session

This is the third year that Hank hosted a Portrait Workshop at his studio exclusively for our club. Hank provided four separate sessions for us in order to accommodate our membership. Hank does all kinds of photography; Family, Wedding, etc., but specializes primarily in High School Senior Portraits.

Introduction to Lightroom

Twenty-two members were present for the Introduction to Lightroom 2 workshop.

Lightroom is geared towards photographers whereas Adobe Photoshop is geared more towards graphic designers.  Photoshop contains the Bridge program which is a browser, useful for viewing your photos, and adding some keywords. Lightroom is a data base program and allows you to view and quickly find and organize your photos using keywords, ratings, flags, and collections.

This was a series of videos put together by Arley and presented by John Shedrick. Most of those in attendance were in need of guidance on how to deal with color management, so we not only learned a bit from the videos, but also from each other. After each segment of the video, we paused to discuss topics that were just viewed and tried to answer the questions that some of the attendees had. I think we all came away with at least a little more confidence in handling color management.
