Please make sure to read the rules regarding photojournalism entries. This is a reality-based competition, which means that few modifications are allowed. The guidelines include no manipulating the image other than cropping, straightening, dodging (lightening), and burning (darkening). You can do basic adjustments to the image (like straighten the horizon) so it looks like the image the photographer saw when they took the picture.

The Photojournalism definition can be found on the LPA website at https://www.lpaphotography.org/dokuwiki/doku.php/competitions/classdefinitions

Dia de los Muertos Field Trip - Saturday, Oct 30, 2021

Death Mask Image
This event is a great photo opportunity, many people dressed in elaborate costumes, face paint, along with music, dancing, and a great parade! The tickets are on sale now, but being this event is located in Los Angeles County there is a good chance it could be cancelled due to covid restrictions; however at this time it’s still a go! Tom Jordan strongly recommends buying tickets online, instead of at the event where the lines are extremely long. Also, parking is difficult. We plan on going as soon as it opens and stay there for about 5 hours (it’s that good). There is only one entrance and the plan is to meet just inside the entrance off to the left. Tom is open to carpooling if someone wants to join him. Sign up below!

Workshop - Prime Desert Woodland Walk - Tuesday, Oct. 26 2021

Join us for a sunset walk through the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve, starting at 5:00PM to take advantage of evening wildlife movement before sunset at 6:04.

This workshop will be an in-person photo opportunity at the Prime Desert Woodland Preserve in Lancaster. Bring your cameras and long lenses for birds, rabbits and perhaps even a coyote! This is a great way to gain knowledge from fellow photographers on proper settings, techniques, etc. A tripod will help you to be able to shoot after sunset.

Location: 43201 35th St W, Lancaster, CA  - Prime Desert Woodland Preserve.

Hoping for a great sunset! Don't forget your wide-angle lens for that!

LPA Competition - October 19th at 6:00 p.m.

Our theme will be Flowers (including Wildflowers). The definition is: Single or multiple blossoms of one or more plants, including Desert Wildflowers. This is not a reality-based class, so creative images are acceptable.

The competition is now open for entries. Members may enter up to 3 images for the $5.00 entry fee. The deadline for members to upload entries will be October 12th at 11:59 p.m.

Collage of sample flower images
Our judge will be Debbie Lefever. Debbie, a professional traveling event photographer for over 10 years, found herself with lots of time on her hands due to events shutting down during the pandemic. Every time she came home, her husband had “Welcome Home Flowers” waiting. The best way to make flowers last is to photograph them. This is how/why she also became a flower photographer (FYI – she will shoot anything in front of her lens).

After teaching several Zoom Flower Photography classes, she wanted a way to stay in touch with students. Thus “Debbie’s Flower Photography FaceBook Group” was created. It now has over 300 members…and growing. It’s a community where we share not only photos, but what we’ve learned as well. It’s a positive support group for photography addicts.
