Meet at 4pm at the N end of the cul-de-sac and we’ll share tips on how to photograph holiday lights, and even try some artistic effects. A map of other “must see” holiday stops in the area will be provided. Bring your tripod if you have one. November Workshop: Creative Photography

Archives

November 16, 2010 - Presented by Nan Carder and Helen Henry

Note: November workshop is on the 3rd Tuesday!

Ever wanted to enter photographs in the creative categories for the PSA and S4Cs’ competitions? Not quite sure what “Creative” means?

"Tea Time" by Anita Kratofil
Using the entries from last year that helped the LPA win 1st place in PSA’s Interclub Creative Year, Nan and Helen will help us learn just what it is to be “creative” with our photographs. They’ll walk us through the layers in the photographs entered so we can see how the final images came to be. We may even get to see the “Best of Best” slide show that was presented at the PSA national conference just last month which include two of our very own.

Field Trip: Moonbows at Yosemite Falls

Led by:  Sue Craft & Bill Sutton - April 15 to 18, 2011

Moonbows, also known as lunar rainbows, are a phenomenon that only occur about three or four times a year, and are only visible for about one to two hours each time they occur.  Moonbows usually only occur during the months of April, May and June and are dependent upon having bright moonlight, the moon must have risen above the south rim of the Yosemite Valley, sufficient mist and spray from the snowmelt runoff, clear skies, dark skies (with the sun more than 9° below the horizon), and the moon at a direction toward the base of the falls at or near a “rainbow angle” of 42°.  When the conditions are right, what appears as a “white”, “grey” or “silvery” streak to the human eye will reveal a photograph with the full spectrum of the rainbow’s colors.

Field Trip: Red Rock Canyon

Archives

Red Rock Canyon State Park - January 29, 2011
Led by David and Christine Wilkins

Red Rock Canyon State Park is close by and offers many photo opportunities.  The red cliffs and sandstone formations are always interesting and Red Rock Canyon is the closest site from which one can shoot the Milky Way and good star trails.  Last years trip to photograph star tails was compromised by all the clouds.  This year we are going to do a more all-purpose trip with star trails and Milky Way shots as part of the program.  I think the cliffs would make some great black and white images so I want to try that too.

November Field Trip - Walt Disney Concert Hall

Archives

November 15, 2010 - Led by David and Christine Wilkins

The Frank Gehry Designed Walt Disney Concert Hall (WDCH) in Los Angeles is one of the great photo destinations in the US.  With its curves and lack of right angles, distortion caused by a wide-angle lens is never noticed.  One can pick a piece of the building to shoot or go for the whole thing.  There is enough glass to make good reflections.  All four sides are different which create more opportunities.  There are even some water fountains in the next block.
