Fall color up Bishop Creek was at it’s peak! Some said “the BEST they’ve ever seen”.
Most of our LPA group of 26+ met on a warm 90 degree Wednesday afternoon at the Galen Rowell’s Gallery in Bishop to get the latest fall color update, and field trip plan from Dave Anderson.
Fields of yellow mustard surrounded the now quiet town of Mentryville as LPA members gathered at the entrance for the tour of the town.
Our guide was Duane Harte of Friends of Mentryville who told us about the history of Mentryville and the wildcat driller Alexander Mentry.
As a follow-up to their Flower workshop in March, then the field trip to Descanso Gardens in April, Tylene and Sue decided to offer a critique session intended primarily to benefit those who had a chance to practice what they learned in the workshop.
We had a nice turnout for the event which was hosted by Tylene and Marty at their house. Due to limited space, we couldn’t accommodate everyone who would have liked to attend, so preference was given to those who attended the field trip.
Eleven LPA members met at the Maturango Museum, in Ridgecrest at 630am, for the start of a long days adventure to the photograph Petroglyphs in one of the secluded canyons in the volcanic Coso Range.
It was another blustery, well actually wind rippin’ day in the Antelope Valley, and 23 LPA members got to escape and go to Descanso Gardens to photograph flowers, with… no wind!
The day was absolutely perfect for photography, as the sky was quite overcast, and it was like having one great big diffuser overhead.
Saturday, February 16 approximately 30 LPA members headed east to Calico Ghost Town. A perfect day weather-wise, we first stopped for breakfast at Denny’s Restaurant in Mojave, and then caravanned CA-58 arriving at Calico, about 10:00 A.M.
Once there, we climbed, what seemed like, “the stairway to heaven” (an amazingly long stairway carved out of stone), which led us to the center of town.
A large group of 15 met for breakfast, at Carrows, in Palmdale, before departing on our trip to the LA Arboretum, in Arcadia. We met up with a few more LPA members, at the site. We escaped the COLD of the Antelope Valley, and spent a delightfully nice day in Arcadia.
