We had a large turnout for this month’s workshop with many of the attendees being members of the public, since this was advertised as free to the public.

Tylene focused primarily on how to take better pictures and used actual photographs to illustrate all the points as she explained them.

Bill took on a real challenge this time in presenting a workshop that is the opposite of what he usually presents. That is, this time he focused on making changes to a photograph that would be obvious to the viewers that it was deliberately manipulated to produce a particular creative effect.

This was timed to give us ideas and help to prepare for our March photo competition for which the theme will be “Creative”.

This is the second year in a row that Hank hosted a Portrait Workshop at his studio exclusively for our club.

This time, he did four separate sessions for us in order to accommodate our growing membership. Hank spent two full days plus preparation on this, but he said that he has so much fun with this that it’s all worthwhile.

Vince Capasso is an old hand at black and white photography and has mastered techniques for manipulating photographs in a chemical darkroom to accomplish just about any result you could want.

His experience and understanding of how colors relate to each other has enabled him to accomplish the same results using digital techniques.

We ended up having quite a large turn out for tonight's "Doggy Workshop", both photographers and dogs.

Every once in a while we have one of these where everyone becomes an active player. One big mass of photographers just doing their thing.  The not so experienced led by the experienced.

Image Sharpening – From Dummies to Experts, Presented by Bill Kuhlemeier

We had a nice turnout, with quite a few of our newer members present for October’s workshop.

Bill only covered one subject this time; Image Sharpening, but he covered it thoroughly.

So, tonight was our monthly workshop moderated by Lyle Trusty. It was all about critiquing and how to make your pictures better.

Critiquing takes a lot of courage, both having your pictures critiqued and doing the critiquing. If you bring your pictures in, you better be ready for the worst. That way there's no surprises. If you're doing the critiquing, you'd better be prepared for a lot of dirty looks.

We got lucky!!! An evening in the desert with no wind! The temperature was near perfect, the sky full of color, and we watched the crescent moon sink below the horizon. The evening could not have been more perfect for hanging around and taking long time exposed shots of star trails.

Over thirty LPA members and guests (including two new ones who joined this evening) met at the group campground at Saddleback Butte State Park.
